OUR HISTORY

The Lake Charles course was first opened in 1958 by Al Kurts. He was looking to build a Amusement park in Lake Charles and decided to test the water with a new franchise called Putt-Putt Golf. After 2 years of operating the facility he decides to sell and Al Simpson the manager at the time purchase the facility. It was a 36 hole course at that time. In the early 80′s video games were all the rage but Simpson decided to add 18 more holes instead of getting into the video games business.

Simpson fathered 6 children (oldest to youngest) Cindy, Terry ,Greg, Charles, Doug and Pat.
Al was very involved in the community working with organizations like the Boys club and the Optimist club.

The Putt-Putt parking lot was used for years as a Christmas tree lot. Quality time with the kids usually meant going with Dad to work on project at Putt-Putt or one of the Charities. We can all Put a Christmas tree on a stand and work a paint brush.

The entire family was home for Thanksgiving 1995 when it was announce to the kids that they were deciding what to do with the Putt-Putt as they intended to retire. The family discussed the matter and a few weeks later Greg and his wife Debbie agreed to carry on the operation.

In 1998 the lease was up for renewal and the decision was made to find another location that would allow for potential expansion. November of 1998 the hwy 14 location was closed.

April 2000 would bring the opening of the current location at 620 Petro point drive. A simple 36 hole course with a small club house concession area would get the operation back open.

2003 would bring batting cages to the operation. Soon after additional land was secured to allow for additional attractions.
